Jan Schwartz
Director of Outreach
Jan Schwartz serves as the Director of Outreach, leading PennAEYC’s grassroots outreach and advocacy work with the Pre-K for PA and Start Strong PA advocacy campaigns. The majority of her time is spent building Pre-K for PA and Start Strong PA campaign efforts and presence in the Northeast.
Jan has worked in the early care and education field for eighteen years. Through her previous work as a Local Education and Resource Network (LEARN) Coordinator and an independent consultant for various education-focused nonprofits, Jan has developed relationships with center directors, staff, and families at both for-profit and nonprofit child care, group, and family centers. She has served as a liaison between multiple working groups composed of legislative, school, business, and community leaders.
In her current role, Jan engages and mobilizes a diverse network of PennAEYC members, early care and education professionals, families, and community members across her assigned regions. A cornerstone of her advocacy work has been helping early childhood educators, parents, and students find their voice to champion the early care and learning field — including organizing groups to visit legislators’ district offices and travel to Harrisburg to make their case directly to lawmakers.
Jan represents PennAEYC on the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation’s Early Care and Education Collaborative, where she has contributed to planning events throughout NAEYC’s Week of the Young Child (WOYC) that engaged providers, educated local elected officials on the importance of early childhood education, and brought the business community into the conversation.
Beyond her work at PennAEYC, Jan is actively involved in her community. She serves on the Career Institute of Technology Occupational Advisory Committee and the Wilson Area LINCS, Coalition for Families and Youth. She is also the Membership Director for the Easton Branch of the American Association of University Women and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Easton.
She holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, both from Kean University.
